Staying safe on the exchange

The exchange works because it’s real neighbors helping real neighbors. Here’s how we protect that — and the habits that keep you safe.

El intercambio funciona porque son vecinos reales ayudándose. Así lo protegemos — y así te cuidas tú.

The ground rules

  • No money changes hands. Ever.

The exchange is for trading help, not selling. Nobody here should ask you to pay, wire money, or use a cash app — if someone does, that’s your cue to stop and report them.

Nadie debe pedirte dinero. Si alguien lo hace, repórtalo.

  • Meet in public places.

A library, a coffee shop, a church parking lot, a MARTA station. For handoffs, daytime is better. Bring a friend if anything feels off — and trust that feeling.

Reúnanse en lugares públicos, de día si es posible. Si algo no se siente bien, confía en tu instinto.

  • Your address stays yours.

Posts show your neighborhood — never your address, never your phone number. Share contact details in messages only when you’re ready, and only what’s needed.

  • Keep the conversation here at first.

Messages on ATL Care can be reported and reviewed; texts can’t. Someone pushing hard to move off the platform right away is a warning sign.

What we do on our end

  • Everyone who posts or messages has verified a phone number.
  • Every post and every first message passes an automatic safety screen built to catch scams and exploitation; anything uncertain goes to a human moderator.
  • Reporting is one tap, anonymous to the other person, and reviewed by people.
  • Blocking someone ends all contact between you, both directions, immediately.

A note on rides and errands

Rides are some of the most generous help neighbors give — and they deserve extra care. Agree on the pickup spot in messages, share your plan with someone you trust, and feel free to ask the other person to confirm details before you go. Drivers and riders both take part at their own judgment; ATL Care connects neighbors but can’t vouch for every trip. The full details are in our terms of service.

If something goes wrong

If you’re ever in danger, call 911 first. For anything on the platform — a scammy post, a message that crossed a line — use the report button on the post or message and a moderator will handle it. Repeated or serious behavior gets people removed for good.
