You may qualify if you were hurt, saw a violent crime, had strong emotional harm, helped a victim, paid crime costs, or relied on someone killed or hurt by a violent crime. The crime usually must be told to police within 72 hours unless there is a good reason.
How to apply
Register at the online portal (victimscompportal.cjcc.ga.gov) or download the paper application. Fill it out, sign it where needed, and add the police report. Mail the packet to the Atlanta office at 104 Marietta Street NW, Suite 400. Most claims must be filed within 3 years of the crime.
